My wife's 2002 Xterra developed a problem tonight and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. The Check engine light is on and it is running a little rough, also white smoke is coming from the exhaust as well as a strong gas smell like it is not all burning up

I haven't had that problem before, but I had a problem with white smoke, someone who owned my old Taurus didn't put my oil pan on right, and it was smokin bad, but bedause of that I got it cheap, kuz they thought it needed work. hehe

Jason it is under warranty... get it to the dealership fast. Gas = Never Good.

Hows the oil? Full? Cant think of anything else.

maybe a bad tank of gas or a little oil burnin off.

Get it to the dealer...sounds like a sensor(egr...etc) or maybe a coil/plug problem.

It is being towed to the dealer for service....will keep you up to date on what they say

my best guess would be bad/dirty/corroded spark plugs, damaged piston, or old/dirty/too little oil.... also, could be an injector stuck wide open
