Heat Shield?

I was wondering if it was safe to remove this material from under the hood and dispose of it? Mine is really bad looking now due to a lot of water and mud hitting it as well as my old filter rubbing and tearing at it. Thanks for any help.

i dont think your aloud to for insurance purposes cause it is a fir retardant material, so that if the engine catches on fire it will smother it like a blancket. it also helps in reducing heat in the engine carpament and deaden the noise of the engine

I took mine off and never had any problems, and my cowl hood doesn't have it either.

don't believe mine has any padding under the hood and I know my last F-150 didn't.

It's a Ford, they dont catch on fire.

Ive taken mine off of ever vehicle ive owned (that had one) for more than one reason.......The biggest is that if your engine does catch fire these things are made to drop down on it and smother the fire.....well i think they would just make the flames go out around the mat and into the fenders and firewall.......imho they are worthless.....Expecially take these off it you have a foam highflow air filter on top of a carb.....onebackfire and your engine and engine bay are gone or yeally messed up.............

I can tell you that mat is listed as flame retardent, but the damn thing isn't... From personal experience - that thing will light up. It is there to keep some of the engine compartment heat from getting to the hood itself.
