| lower intake manifold on 4.0 L OHV tightened my lower intake manifold bolts last spring to cure pinging in my Explorer. Since it seems so common on these engines, I decided to tighten them again yesterday as a matter of preventive maintenance. I was a little surprised; only two of the bolts were still at spec, and three or four were quite loose after 10k miles. If you don't already, you may consider making this a routine procedure. |

| Yep, I've got this on the list. After reading your post, Mr Shorty, I'm thinking about using a little Lock-Tite on the bolts. Any reason not to use Lock-Tite on intake manifold bolts? Since this is such a problem, looks like Ford would have used a thread locker on these at the factory..... |
