70's 390cid building specs - Ford Motor Forums

Here is a VERY useful site that I just found tonight. Not many of you guys will appreciate it, but someone who has a 390 and was considering building it will find this to be a jem. It is good reading, though, for engine buffs even if you dont have a 390.

fast thanks for the link, I have been a fan of the 390 for years, my grandpa had a Ranchero with a 390 in it and it hauled ass...I want one bad.

They are SUPER easy to build. The only difficulty I ran into is locating heads and finding a shop to do them without requiring a loan. I will tell ya if you build one, take note of how that massive chunk of cast iron bends your cherry picker when you put the engine in.....:blue:

Hot Rod Magazine FINALLY did something cool.... They built a 450 hp Ford 390 and stuffed it in a 60's F150! What was really cool is there isnt much difference between the engine I built and theirs. Different carb and slightly larger cam is what they did. If you are an FE motor buff, check it out! Its titled "The 450hp Boat Anchor" and the article (as short as it is) is well worth the time!:blue:
