Throttle Cable MOD!!!!!

Ok, i was complaining to the guys on an explorer forum how i couldnt get any acceleration out of my explorer because it felt that when i pushed my pedal to the floor, it was hardly making a difference. They suggested to me, the throttle cab mod which worked GREAT!
by they way, I have a 94 manual explorer sport

Anyway, to make things easy on myself, i took off my intake tube and used a screwdriver end to prop open the throttle body. This made the cable that connects to the gas pedal dangle. I then took two zip ties and tightened them on the cable between the spring and the metal end piece. when i took the screwdrive out of the throttle body, the cable tightened and now it feels tougher to push the gas pedal. (Not actually toguher, the cable is just tighter so it does more without you pushing down farther on the gas pedal). Anyway, to find out if doing this MOD might help you just take off your intake a tube and have a friend press down the gas pedal. If your throttle body doesnt come to a 90 degree angle you can get more out your engine! I will try to post pics but just let me know if you dont understand something

On my Ranger I didn't do anything on the engine side of things. From under the dash I pulled the slack out of the cable, moved the pedal upward and was able to zip tie about three quarters of an inch on the cable. I made sure not too pull too much to keep the engine from getting extra gas when I didn't have my foot on the throttle.
It made a big difference, I used to be flooring it on some of the large highway hills that we have here, not anymore though. I would say it gave me another two inches to move the pedal down. This got rid of all the up-down play in the pedal. Before I had to push the pedal down those two inches before gas was sent to the engine.

It helped a whole lot!

same here, propping it open with a screwdriver just gave me more slack to deal with and i didnt have to worry about holding it

nope... it should just tighten the cable so you vehicle will have more "pep" when you push the pedal. If you overtighten the cable it will rev the engine higher than a normal idle wasting gas however

every thing streches, even a metal wire cable, this mod isnt neccisary for newer vehicals because the cable hasnt been abuse for years, but once wear and tear start to kick in you will need to do this for any throttle responce.
