Would it hurt the 2.3 to remove the cat.? Like not enought back pressure or what....there are no emmissions laws where i live so thats not a problem.

actually... it's the type of muffler and exhaust system that you use that makes a car/truck sound like a "ricer"... I have a drag CRX that has a simple dump right after the header for an exhaust and well, to put it lightly, I guarantee it sounds more ballsy than most of your rides, and lives up to it too... Sounds like an Airplane (no joke, the fu**er rumbles)... And my Ranger with the gutted Cat (since I'm in CA I have to have one down there) with 3" Turbo back exhaust and a mean sounding muffler you'd never know I was a 4 banger coming down the street, especially with my Wastegate dumping to atmosphere... ehehehe... I've seen and heard Rangers with a ricer type exhaust/muffler system, and i couldn't tell it was American till I saw it pass by!!! The resonators and flow determine what it sounds like... So based on the muffler and exhaust system you get, cat or no cat, you can sound ballsy, or "riced" out... :werd: :werd: :werd: :werd:

And to answer your question... If you don't need it, take it out, MORE FLOW, if you do have to have it, gut it... More flow, but not as benefitial as taking it out and running unrestricted... And you won't notice a huge difference either way until you start doing more to it...
