Adequate Wattage?

A Kicker L7 8in. sub handles 450 watts rms. I asked the sound man I bought it from to recommend an amp for it and he said 450 watts sounded "optimistic" for the sub. I bought a concept amp around 200something watts. He said it would push it pretty hard, yet I still get the feeling it could work a little harder, maybe 300something. Again, I do realize its an 8in., but it is an L7 and I feel it could punch a little harder. It kicks very hard with the volume up but it seems I have to raise the volume too high for the entire system, even w/ my remote gain sub switch cranked up. It does sound perfect when cranked for my types of music however, but I want to hear some of your thoughts on the wattage though. I think it could stand more, but I wanted some more experienced opinions. Peace

i believe 4 i could be wrong...if i were to get a 400 watt amp, of course it would only push around 300something, i dont think that would be too much. It would give me more freedom with the gain switch

well I would look for an amp that does about 500 at 2 ohms if you have dual 4 ohm voice coils

Well... I learned something last night that hit me like a kick in the teeth. A ported sub can't handle as much as a sealed one. Thanks to the sound guy for pointing that out to me...sonofa...anyways, I think i'm gonna sell my box after a while and amp, buy a twin sealed box and another L7 8in. and put an 800watt amp to them. I think that'll be my little slice of heaven. I always thought I'd never have two subwoofers, but bass is audio nicotine...simply addicting. (may i add to that i do not smoke at all just to clear that up!)
