Electrical Problem?

My truck has a weird problem. Everytime I close the door the sensor that says the door is open stays on and so the interior lights stay on. It takes a while for it to go off. After it goes off, then the interior lights turn off too. Sometimes it takes longer for the sensor to go off. How can I fix this? I hope you guys can give me some feeback. Thanks.

In the older vehicles the sensor was just a button in the door frame close the door button is pushed lights go out/ the newer vehicles no button, but sensor is in the hinge sytem, it might be as easy as cleaning the contacts once you get to the sensor. check the opposite door and see if the problem is on that side also. if so then it could be something else.
good luck, note: a Chiltons Manual is good to have, check electrical schematics.

Thanks, I'm not sure where the sensor is though. So I don't even know what to clean.

I have the same problem with my wifes 97 taurus and I had to take out the interior light fuse just to get the light to go off, but I too would like to know what exactly needs cleaned and see if that fixes the problem.

Re: Electrical Problem?

My Ranger does this too.

Now I am seeing a trend here.

Funny though, it only seemed to do it in the spring, winter was no problem, summer no problem.

So I need to look for a 'sensor'?

Does anyone know exactly what I should be looking for?

I already looked for a switch like the old days, but couldnt find one like in my 91.
