Time for a little Q & A

I have a 2003 Edge regular cab. It did come with a 4 speaker system with, I believe, 6x8 speakers all around. It does have the stock 6 disc in dash.

From my previous mustang, I still own a MTX thunder 250X amp...

http://www.mtxaudio.com/caraudio/arc...hunder250x.cfm

I also have a small truck box sub box, with a MTX Terminator 10". The speaker says "MTX Terminator xTs" on it, but it runs well with the amp. Should be an XTS1040 or basically a road thunder RT1040.

In my old setup I used an alpine head unit with RCA outs. Now I have to go with the stock head unit, and tie into the rear speaker outputs. (I want a stock looking system, and I don't want to spend a whole bunch of cash).

Question 1: Should I consider or need any type of passive crossover for the front? Is there any type of factory cross over in the stock system already?

Question 2: Considering my story above, am I wasting my time? My sub and amp aren't the newest, but they were never abused and should still function pretty well. But is the stock head unit good enough to build off of for now? I.E. I plan on replacing all four speakers by summer.

Question 3: All four factory speakers are 6x8?

#1. i dont believe there is a crossover. crossovers never hurt.

#2, the stock head unit is fine for using stock speakers, but as soon as you add in a sub, you're going to want a head unit that can control the sub volumes, as well as have good control over highs and mids....

#3- they may be different in the edges, but my door speakers are 5x7 and rears are 6x9

i'd strongly suggest getting this cd deck... it's the one i have, and i have been extremely pleased w/it.. it's got a 50x4 mosfet amp....

it's decently priced, looks great, sounds great, and is easy to use....

hope that helped...

Actually my current amp has built in adjustable crossover, so it should be able to process the lows to my sub and the highs and mids to my rear speakers... The only issue is I believe it also boosts the output signal, which would not be good for my stock speakers, even if they only get the highs and lows. Anyways it won't be perfect, but it should be better than stock...

Gotta just hook it up I guess and see what blows up... :) No manual unfortunately.

And I'll be ordering speakers through crutchfield, so I get those handy factory wiring harnesses. Hopefully their website will let me pick the right size. I am thinking they may be 5x7 fr and 6x8 rear, with probably pretty small depth clearances.

And finally I would love to get a new head unit, but I've been through 4 of them already. I'm 25, lived in plano all my life, and maybe it was my previous Mustang that drew attention, but I am getting tired of replacing a window and head unit every other year. So I am gonna see how far this stocker will take me, and maybe consider replacing it after I get a microwave security system... :)

EDIT: Actually it looks like I will need an active crossover unit that handles hi level inputs/outputs. Or just tap into the rear speakers and maybe a passive inline crossover to help out the speakers. Sounds ghetto to me, so I think I need to order speakers real soon.

Just a note...the stock speakers are 6x8 in all 4 spots as far as I know...you can fit a 5x7 or 6x9 i am told but that is not what comes in it

man all you need to do is run a line out convertor to the amp... and then get some bass blockers from your nearest best buy for your factory speakers...

Line out converter? I take it that converts hi-level speak wire to rca? Yeah, I just gotta find one at the local best buy/walmart. Or is there a better place to purchase it (and the bass blockers?) I prefer an actual device not just an inline capacitor.

Thanks to all for the info.
