by the way my optimum size would be 12 inch subs. hits hard but still fairly clean hitting.

12's are nice but they require to much power... i personally like 10's b/c they don't need much power but they still hit hard as hell!!!

a friend of mine owns a stereo shop locally. he has a chevy astro van. he has 4 18" cerwin vega strokers in a custom built inclosure.(basically the whole back of the astro van.) he is running a total of 8,000 watts , yes eight thousand watts. that is for the 4 subs and the mids and tweeters. he is currantly killing the stereo comps regionally. he is trying to get past the regionals so he can go to the nationals. his spl's are currantly 3 decibles behind the currant world leader. that van is totally insane!

I've had 10", 12" and 15"s, i have to say for sound reproduction its gonna depend both on your amp and make of sub. how loud do you want it, is it for compition or listening pleasure?(both are very big differences) will there be other speakers and amps? what kind of pick up do you have(stereo)? orions sound great and they hit hard, with a good phonix gold amp a good 2 12 inchers is great for cruising to the tunes. if its compition you want, go nuts.... watts, amps... twelve subs...... whatever....
but after all that i just want to say my personal fav's are 12's.

I personally like 8's for my SQ subbass and 15-18" woofers for SPL.

My next install will have either 2 15's or 1 18" (depending on if I get sponsored or not), along with at least 4 kilowatts of power. That's just for SPL.

SQ will be tweets, 6.5's mids, 6.5 midbaas, 8" subbass on 2 400 watt amps....brand depends on sponsorship ;)

I love my 10 L7's, and will never go back to a round sub. These things sound awsome in my truck. Just my .02

I mainly listen to rock, so 10s are as big as i would ever go. They can get fairly deep if need be, but still hit very hard. I love L7 8s because they're just perfect for most of my music (very tight and punchy). Besides they're loud as crap in a reg. cab too ::maniacal laugh::
