| Re: advice for getting bronco II. My aunt had a Bronco II back in the day. Can't remember the year, motor or trans, but it was reliable and was good for here DD.
I didn't have a Bronco II, but I did have an '85 Ranger XLT LB 4X4 2.8L 5-spd Manual. I beat that thing to hell and it kept coming back for more. It was a little underpowered, as I could never get up to 75mph on the interstate, then again I did have oversized tires on it and never resized the gears.
Now the only problem I really had other than normal maintenance was the distributor. If I off-roaded to hard, it'd knock the distributor out of alignment and I couldn't get over 25-30mph. Simply would adjust it back to the appropriate position and power was back. It's an easy part to replace, just never did. Problem is the entire distributor is made from plastic, so the threads got stripped over time and is why it would move on it's own. Otherwise like I stated, the truck was bullet proof.
Now I'd most likely still have the truck had someone not run a red light and broadsided me totaling it out back in '96.
